Federal Skilled Trades Program is specifically designed for those individuals who have the adaptive capacity to perform jobs in various trade market of Canada. Trade workers are a measured resource to run many industrial areas in Canada and plays a significant role in day to day economic turnovers.

Requirements of the Federal Skilled Trades Program in Express Entry

  • Work Experience – Applicant must have at least 2 years of full time or an equal amount of skilled work experience in a skilled trade within the last 5 years before you apply
    • Full Time (30 hours weekly for 12 months) at 1 Job = Part-Time (15 hours weekly for 24 months)
    • Full Time at more than 1 job with 30 hours weekly for 12 months = 1560 hours
  • Language – Applicant must meet the required language levels CLB 5/ NCLC 5 in Listening and Speaking, and CLB 4/NCLC 4 in Writing and Reading
  • NOC requirement – Meet the NOC (National Occupation Classification) job requirements for skilled trade except for needing a certificate of qualification. Qualified NOC  groups are as follow: Major Group 72, 73, 82, 92, 632, 633
  • Have a valid job offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year OR
    a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority
  • Up to 2 employers can promise for continues work for at least 1-year full-time work which is 30 hours weekly
  • Provinces and territories issue certificates of qualification in the skilled trades in Canada. Certificate of qualification can be received if the authority of the province or territory decide that you are eligible to write the exam after assessing your training, trade experience and skills
  • Education – Education is not a requirement for Federal Skilled Trade Program. However, extra points can be earned if education is done in Canada or abroad. Applicant must provide the appropriate documentation to prove the legitimacy of the education.
  • Finance – Applicant must ensure the availability of adequate funds to support your family and yourself; however, funds not required if you are currently working or have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.
  • Other requirements:
    • The applicant must be admissible to Canada.
    • The Applicant must plan to leave outside the province of Quebec, conditions apply.
