Becoming a Canadian Citizen

Becoming a Canadian citizen is the very proud moment for a foreign national as it is a privilege awarded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Canada welcomes over a quarter of a million permanent residents each year in Canada, and a significant amount of individual does apply to become a citizen of Canada.
Becoming a Canadian citizen is not a right indeed it is a privilege awarded by citizenship minister. An immigrant in Canada may apply for Canadian Citizenship if the individual meets the eligibility criteria.

How it works

Become Eligible:

Status: You must have a valid status in Canada as a permanent resident

Time in Canada: Applicant Must live in Canada with a legal status for 1095 days out of immediate last five years. The applicant may receive a credit of up to 365 days at a rate of half day for each full day spent in Canada while being on temporary resident status and remaining of days while being on permanent resident status to complete 1095 days in Canada.

Language Requirement: Applicant between the age of18 and 54 must have proven language either English or French skills. Candidate must prove the ability to communicate (Speak and Listen only) at the level of CLB 4 through an approved language test, or secondary or higher education certificate or Language program certificate.

Tax Filing: If applicable under income tax act applicant must have filed income tax for three years in the last five years

About Canada: Applicant, between the age of 18 and 54 must pass the citizenship test based on knowledge about Canada in aspects of the rights and responsibilities of a Citizen, values, history, symbol, institutions.

Inadmissibility: Applicant must be admissible to Canada

Other: Applicant must meet other applicable requirements.

Citizenship Test

Applicant between the age of 18 and 54 must pass the citizenship test based on the knowledge about Canada in aspects of rights and responsibilities of a Citizen, values, history, symbol, institutions.

Citizenship Ceremony

Once the Candidate passes the citizenship test then-candidate shall attend the Citizenship ceremony to take the oath and to receive a Canadian Citizenship Certificate. Candidate must be admissible to Canada at this time.

Once you become a Canadian citizen, you must follow applicable rules and regulations. A Canadian citizen has certain rights and responsibilities to fulfill.

An applicant must fulfill all eligibility requirements before applying for
Applicant must consider other important factors such as travel made outside Canada. In some events applicant’s travel made outside Canada may be considered towards citizenship.
